Welcome to the Crawley Down Village Website

Crawley Down Village Sign

Crawley Down Village, together with Copthorne form Worth Parish Council and is situated in the northeast corner of West Sussex close to the borders of Surrey and Kent. Crawley Down is handy for the M23 and only about a ten minute drive from Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges and East Grinstead railway stations.

Until 1967 the village was served by Grange Road railway station on the Three Bridges to Tunbridge Wells Line which was closed as a result of the Beeching Axe. The old track bed has been revitalised as a linear Country Park called the Worth Way which now offers a haven for wildlife and a valued trail for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The Worth Way extends to Crawley in the West and East Grinstead in the East.

This website is a community project run by the Crawley Down Village Website Association. The Association is funded by a number of local businesses. This funding is then used to provide much need grants for local Crawley Down organisations. For further information about grants that we have given go to "The Association" page and follow the link you will find there.

This site provides a wealth of information about the village and its surrounding areas. So, if you want to know about the local schools, churches, transportation, amenities, sports facilities and much more, you should find all you need here.

This site also has an extensive photo gallery featuring up-to-date as well as historic photographs. The gallery is updated frequently. The most recent addition to the gallery being a number of photographs taken from Crawley Down Cricket Club archives. We have provided sub-domains for the Parish Church of All Saints' and also the Residents Association (CDRA).

   Save The Royal Oak

As readers of local publications and websites will be very aware, the current owners of the Royal Oak have applied for planning permission to change the use of our pub to a convenience store. This is planning application DM/15/1275.

There are many good reasons why this should not happen and very few reasons why change of use should be permitted.

Mid-Sussec District Council will be hearing the application on Thursday 27th August. The meeting will start at 7:00pm and the public are invited to attend. The more people that can get along the better as this helps to show the level of feeling in Crawley Down.

Please see the website for more information www.savetheroyaloak.org
